Why Herding?

Herding dogs crave a mental challenge, they want to problem solve and have a job - in the modern world, they don't always have the benefit of access to sheep, so misplaced controlling behaviours (like nipping or rounding up other pets/children), or nervousness and reactivity surface. Thankfully, herding dogs in the Calgary area have The Meadows! We'll help you shape your dog's innate ability to read and move around stock, in a calm, gentle, and stress free manner. Regardless of if they're a strong-eyed breed like Border Collies or Kelpies who thrive on distance work. Or upright, tending breeds like Belgian Sheepdogs, the Corgi, and Aussie Shepherds who use motion to motivate stock and are ideally suited for pen-work.
Our philosophy is rooted in kindness towards all animals, dogs learn to use their presence to motivate livestock, and learn to respect the complex relationships involved in herding.
